Myofascial Release® (John Barnes technique)
Myofascial Release (MFR)® is a therapeutic technique that involves applying slow, gentle, sustained pressure into the connective-tissue (just below the skin) in order to relax and elongate the fascia, while helping to increase joint mobility and to eliminate long held pain.
Any kind of physical or emotional trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures can create Myofascial restrictions, which turns into ongoing tension within the fascia, producing pressures that constrict movement and reduce blood flow, while the nerves register reoccuring pain.
Most symptoms remain constant but subtle, and will not typically show up on standard medical testing such as x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.
The first step in applying the John Barnes Technique of Myofascial Release® is an assessment session where the therapist learns about the client as a unique individual. This assessment period allows the therapist to develop a customized therapeutic session and begin the uncoiling process of any unconciously help physical tension locked with the body.
The treatment is performed directly on the skin, without oils or creams, to allow the therapist to feel and detect fascia restrictions, and to apply the appropriate sustained pressure that helps facilitate the release of the fascia.
